First Draft Certification Model

Following requests from several organisations, we are extending the deadline for the first round of consultations on the draft proposed model from 31 October to 22 November 2013. We hope that this provides sufficient time for comments and inputs from stakeholders, and still gives the project team enough time to process the inputs and develop a revised model by the end of December 2013. Some of the comments already  received have been shared on the certification page.

Once the first set of revisions have been made, in early 2014 we plan to field test the model with at least four different NGOs and in differing crisis contexts. This will provide a further opportunity to examine, assess and validate the criteria and assumptions of the model and identify gaps based on concrete information from the field.

Please be aware that the consultation process is on-going, and there will be many more opportunities to input on the project findings. Throughout the process, stakeholders will be invited to share their views and suggestions on the proposed model, as well as other critical issues. These could include the identification and mitigation of potential risks associated with certification; and, the best means to gain commitments from donor and host governments and UN Agencies to ensure alignment and the harmonisation of their own policies and procedures towards the project recommendations. This will help ensure that any model is inclusive and not used to restrict or limit access to funding or support to only larger organisations.

The project’s final recommendations will be released by September 2014, from when we anticipate that further dialogue will be necessary to develop a consensus on how to move forward, regardless of final outcomes.
